Eyebrow and waxing aftercare: what to do in the first 48 hours
By Salon 477 | October 22, 2026
If you found me searching “hair salon near me” or “lash services near me, ” you’re in the right place. A lot of my Bay Ridge clients start with brows and end up coming back for hair, lashes, and more.
One rule matters most right after your Eyebrow and Lip service: keep the area calm. That means no heat, no heavy sweating, no makeup on the waxed or threaded skin, and no sun for the first 24 to 48 hours. I love when first-time visitors tell me they were “sat right away, no wait time, ” because it usually means you’re fitting this into a busy day. This aftercare is built for that kind of schedule.
Quick reminder: Our Eyebrow and Lip service is $35 and combines brow shaping with upper-lip hair removal for clean, refined facial detailing.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: keep heat, sweat, and makeup off your brows and lip
Right after eyebrow and waxing or threading, your skin is doing a tiny repair job. If you pile on heat and friction too soon, irritation tends to hang around longer. Here’s what I generally recommend, and it’s the same guidance I give clients heading out the door in Bay Ridge before errands or evening plans.
Do this today
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water. No scrubbing. Pat dry.
- Apply a fragrance-free soothing gel twice a day. Aloe gel or witch hazel are common choices if you already have them.
- If you feel puffy, do a cool compress for 5 to 10 minutes.
Skip this until at least tomorrow (often 48 hours)
- Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and anything that turns your face bright red.
- Intense workouts and heavy sweating.
- Makeup directly on the treated skin. That includes brow pencil, concealer around the brow, and foundation over the upper lip.
- Touching, rubbing, or “checking” the area constantly. Hands add bacteria and friction.
Bay Ridge commuter tip: If you take the R train and you feel flushed by the time you get home, rinse with lukewarm water and do a quick cold compress before dinner plans. It calms the skin fast.
Days 3 to 7: the tiny mistakes that cause bumps after eyebrow and waxing
Most people do great the first day, then forget on day three and hit the area with strong skincare. This is the week to keep things simple. And yes, you can still look polished. You just protect the skin while it settles.
What I want you to avoid for 5 to 7 days
- Exfoliation on the brows and upper lip. No scrubs, no cleansing brushes, no rough washcloth.
- Retinoids and strong acids (like retinol, glycolic, lactic, salicylic). These are common triggers for extra irritation right after waxing.
- Picking at tiny bumps. They usually calm down on their own within 24 to 72 hours, but picking drags it out.
- Direct sun on freshly treated skin. If you have any redness, let it settle first, then use sunscreen.
Bay Ridge weather note (this one surprises people)
When fall winds kick up and indoor heat starts running, treated skin dries out faster than it does in summer. If you’re out and about in Bay Ridge, keep a small soothing gel in your bag so you can do a quick, clean touch-up after work.
A simple routine that protects your brow shape and smooth lip result
You don’t need a long routine after an Eyebrow and Lip service. You need consistency. I’d rather you do three small things well than try ten products and guess.
My go-to aftercare checklist
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water, then pat dry.
- Soothe twice daily with a fragrance-free gel or calming liquid (aloe gel or witch hazel are common).
- Add sunscreen once redness is gone. Freshly treated skin is more UV-sensitive for at least a week.
If you also do eyebrow and tint or an eyebrow and lash tint, keeping oil-based products away from the brow area helps your tint stay crisp. Ask me what to use based on what you already own, and I’ll keep it realistic.
When to text us: what’s normal vs what needs a quick check-in
Mild redness is normal. A little tenderness is normal. Small bumps can pop up and usually settle within 24 to 72 hours, especially if you avoid heat and keep your hands off the area. What I don’t want you to do is “tough it out” if something looks off.
Normal
- Pinkness right after your service
- A warm feeling for a few hours
- A few tiny bumps that calm down in 1 to 3 days

- Persistent swelling that isn’t improving
- Spreading redness, pus, or severe pain
- Anything that worries you, especially before a big event
“Susie was wonderful she listened, she gave me exactly what I wanted and I was in and out quickly but I didn’t feel rushed.”
one of our regulars
I’ve been in Bay Ridge for a long time, and I keep aftercare simple on purpose. If you’re in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Borough Park, or Coney Island, it’s easy to pop back in for a quick re-check or a same-week adjustment. And if you’re looking for a hijab-friendly hair salon, a private room hair salon, or a more modest setup, let me know when you book. I care about your comfort just as much as your brows.
If you’re also searching “haircut near me” or “hair styling near me, ” you can keep everything in one place. Brows, lashes, hair, and event-ready finishes. I’ll guide you based on what you actually need.
Eyebrow and Lip aftercare FAQs I get all the time
Can I put makeup on my eyebrows and upper lip after waxing or threading?
I recommend waiting at least 24 hours, and 48 hours is even better if you’re prone to bumps. Makeup on freshly treated skin can clog pores and hold in heat, which is exactly what we’re trying to avoid early on.
How long should I wait to workout after eyebrow and lip waxing?
Give it 24 to 48 hours. Sweat, heat, and friction can irritate the follicles and make bumps more likely. If you have to move your body the same day, keep it light and avoid overheating.
How long does redness and tiny bumps last after eyebrow and lip services?
Redness often settles the same day. Tiny bumps tend to calm down within 24 to 72 hours. Keeping the area cool, clean, and makeup-free usually speeds that up.
Can I swim or go to a sauna after getting my brows and lip done?
I’d wait 24 to 48 hours for both. Sauna heat can flare irritation quickly, and pools can be drying and irritating on freshly treated skin. If you’re planning a beach or spa day, schedule your brows a couple days earlier.
When can I resume retinol or acid exfoliation after eyebrow and lip waxing?
I generally say 5 to 7 days. If you’re sensitive, wait the full week. If you’re not sure what counts as an “active, ” bring your product list next time and I’ll tell you what to pause.
Are “eyebrow and tint” services different aftercare than waxing?
A little. After tint, I want you to keep the brow area clean and avoid heavy oils on the brows so the color stays crisp. After waxing, the bigger focus is reducing heat, friction, and strong skincare for about a week.
